Time frame
Between 120 to 180 minutes
Transforming worthless things, such as household waste into beautiful small objects such as talismans, jewellery, book marks or hanging decorations is a way not only to discover beauty in things where you didn‘t think of searching for it, but it is also a way to sensitise yourself and your environment to the importance of up-cycling whenever it is possible.

In this activity, just like in the space talismans workshop, you will work with spices, pigments, herbs or other organic household waste.

But, as the molding technique does not require finely powdered materials or pigments, you can work with small pieces of nearly waste that you can find at home or that you collect in the city or the natures such as small stones, leaves, grains, vegetable or fruit peelings etc.

In the same way as with the spice talismans, you can created small wearable pieces.

For a more detailed tutorials about the use of UV resin, you can also check the Spice talisman tutorial.

You can play to create different shapes.

You can also mix the resin with paint and other materials before pouring it into your mold to create new textures, for instance, with sand.

If you don't have silicone molds at your disposal, you can also use hard plastic that you cut off to different shapes.

When it's dry and hard, you can peal it off the plastic shape.

The learning process is a series of experimentation about the behavior of the materials, so be prepared not to have immediately the result that you imagined.
Nevertheless, there are some failures that you can avoid, such putting too much spices and grains into your mold

Or willing to create too precise compositions as resin will dissolve the outlines.

At the end, when your piece is a success, it a double pleasure: that of seeing your waste material in a different way, as a source of beauty but also the pleasure of having learnt something new.

Then you can observe your creations from even closer with the help of your smartphone.
